Is therapy confidential?
What is discussed in therapy is confidential information. However there are exceptions to this such as active suicidal thoughts, when subpoenaed by a judge, or when abuse or neglect of a minor or elderly person has been reported. Under certain circumstances when working with adolescent clients, we will disclose information to parents if we have immediate concern for the adolescent's safety.
Does therapy really help? How can I make it worthwhile?
We often encourage clients to practice something we discussed or complete some type of "homework" in between sessions. Clients that are motivated to make changes and do challenging work outside of sessions often benefit the most from working with us.
What should I expect in the first session?
Our first session will vary somewhat from our other sessions. We will go over your paperwork, discuss your desired goals for therapy, and answer questions you may have. In your first session, we will have a number of questions for you that will help us get to know you and your life circumstances.
How many sessions should I expect and how often do I need to come?
The number and frequency of sessions will depend upon your current needs for therapy. Often times clients benefit from coming weekly when they begin therapy then later transition to bi-weekly or even monthly.
What should I do about canceling or rescheduling my appointment?
Please notify us as soon as possible when you need to cancel or reschedule so that other clients may have an opportunity to schedule in that time slot. Most clients opt to receive email and text reminders. Clients are charged a fee for the session if they cancel or reschedule within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment.
